Figuring out what to wear for your branding photoshoot can feel a little overwhelming. But I promise, it doesn’t have to be.

I’m Maria Vasserman of MS VISION, and part of my job as your branding photographer is to help you look and feel like the most confident, aligned version of yourself. That includes helping you plan your outfits so they reflect your brand, your personality, and the kind of client you want to attract.

Let’s break it all down. This guide will help you choose what to wear to a branding photoshoot, and what to skip.

Start with your brand vibe

Before you even look in your closet, think about how you want people to feel when they see your photos. Your clothes are a huge part of that first impression.

Are you fun and bold? Soft and nurturing? Clean and modern? Minimal and sophisticated?

Your brand vibe should influence the cuts, colours, and styles you choose, and we’ll use this during our prep phase to align everything.

Outfits that work well for branding shoots

I recommend planning 3–5 different looks to give yourself variety. Here are the types of outfits that work best.

A polished professional look

Something you might wear to a big client meeting, speaking engagement, or pitch. This could be a blazer, tailored pants, a jumpsuit, or a statement dress.

A relaxed everyday look

This is your “real life” outfit — something you’d wear working from your favorite café or recording a podcast. Think denim, cozy knits, or casual dresses.

A personality pop look

This is your permission to show off your fun side — maybe a bold print, a favorite color, or an accessory you always get compliments on. It’s what makes you, you.

Layers + texture

Blazers, jackets, cardigans, scarves — these add visual interest and let you change up your look quickly. Texture photographs beautifully, too (linen, denim, knits, etc.).

Accessories

Jewelry, glasses, hats, bags, notebooks — all of these can help tell your story and give your hands something to do while you pose.

What to avoid

Now let’s talk about a few things to skip. Not because they’re “bad,” but because they tend to distract or photograph awkwardly.

  • Neon colors or super bright patterns
  • Thin stripes or small tight prints (can cause distortion on camera)
  • Wrinkled fabrics that don’t hold shape
  • Clothing that doesn’t fit well or makes you fidget
  • Big logos or heavy branding (unless it’s your brand)

What to bring on shoot day

  • All your outfits (on hangers if possible)
  • A pair of backup shoes
  • Steamer or wrinkle release spray
  • Extra accessories
  • Lip balm or makeup for touch-ups
  • A mirror (just in case!)

I’ll help you style each look on-site and give you feedback if you're not sure about something. You won’t be doing this alone.

How I help you look and feel your best

As your photographer, I’m also your unofficial creative director, hype woman, and mirror. I’ll:

  • Help you choose your final outfits
  • Recommend colour palettes that align with your brand
  • Guide you on what photographs best in your chosen location
  • Help you pose and feel amazing in every look

I’ve worked with everyone from artists to lawyers to life coaches, and I know how to translate your brand personality into stunning, strategic photos.
